“Call it a baby-boom building boom. Hoping to remain in their homes and communities as they age — but recognizing that living spaces can become unsafe and difficult to navigate — people in their 50s and beyond are retrofitting houses, building additions or constructing new digs with age-friendly features. […] The big picture is worrisome. A recent study from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University found that less than 25% of homeowners age 55-plus have a bedroom and full bathroom on the first floor of their homes, a way to get into the house without steps, and no steps between rooms — universal design features that make life easier for all ages.”

Contractors and builders should be prepared for in influx of projects, large and small, that make residential buildings a lot more senior friendly. Have you already seen a greater number of jobs that reflect this home modification trend? Share your input in the comments.
